Glasgow (GB)

Glasgow (GB)

As the main population and employment centre in the west of Scotland, Glasgow requires to service the mobility needs of almost 1.8 million residents and commuters from its surrounding catchment.

In the past, the city has enjoyed a favourable modal split between the car and public transport modes (rail and bus) which is underpinned by a relatively low car ownership. However, as the city moves forward and regenerates itself from a heavy industrial past, the emerging demand for mobility and growth in traffic threatens to erode the modal split and increasingly congest the city. The past 10 years have seen increasing rates of car ownership and falling bus patronage. It is considered that this increasing traffic pressure is adversely affecting general mobility and degrading the city’s environment.

Glasgow is involved in EU projects: Sugar and Stadium. Glasgow is aslo a project supporter of CARBOTRAF.
