Editorial
Dear members,
First of all, let me wish you a happy, healthy and joyful 2017 and welcome you to this first issue of InfoPolis in the new year!
As you will see, the beginning of this New Year is rich with interesting and relevant events. The European Transport Safety Council invites all Polis members to a half-day event on Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) on 31 January in Paris, the ERTRAC annual conference will take place on 8th March 2017 featuring Polis president Pex Langenberg, and the Polis Working Group on Bike Sharing Schemes is taking members to Madrid on 26-27 April 2017.
We are always happy to see our members in action and at the forefront of innovation as well. Congratulations to Transport for London for winning the International Road Safety Award! We invite you to learn more about Southampton’s urban freight consolidation schemes, as well as Madrid’s and Reading’s activities on the digitalisation of blue badge parking, within the context of the European SIMON project.
From the institutional side, it is worth mentioning that the European Parliament and the Council have signed into law the new National Emissions Ceilings (NEC) Directive which entered into force on 31 December 2016. The Directive which is the backbone of the Commission's Clean Air Programme for Europe, paves the way towards a stricter monitoring of air pollution. You can also read about the interview of Politico with Christophe Najdovski, Deputy Mayor of the City of Paris, on their severe air quality challenges.
Please login to the Polis website as a member to access all information addressed to Polis members only (green headline). If you do not know your login details, please contact us.
For now, I wish you a pleasant read of this first year's issue of InfoPolis.
Kind regards,
Karen Vancluysen
