January 2018

Dear members,

First of all, I would like to wish you a happy and healthy 2018! I hope you had a nice holiday break!

I am glad to open this first issue of InfoPolis by announcing the new discussion paper that Polis and its Working Group on Traffic Efficiency & Mobility (TE&M WG) has released yesterday on road vehicle automation. The paper has the purpose to bring your perspectives on this key topic to policy makers, industry and researchers, and in particular to the European Commission and to national governments who are strongly supporting the research on AVs. Cities and regions want to ensure that the benefits that automated cars may bring in do not undermine the achievements of sustainable urban mobility, in terms of congestion, environmental and health impact.

Polis is looking forward to a fruitful discussion on which policies regional and transport authorities around Europe and beyond will take in order to ensure positive outcomes from the AVs deployment. The Polis paper is available here and you can also read more about it in this newsletter.

For now, I wish you a pleasant read.

Kind regards,

Karen Vancluysen
