Dear members,

We have the pleasure this week to welcome two new colleagues at the Polis secretariat:

  • Cléo Davies is the new Policy Officer of Polis and will follow all relevant developments in the European Institutions for Polis members. Follow InfoPolis closely for timely updates on policy developments!
  • Karsten Marhold is Project Officer at Polis, involved in several EU projects such as MyWay, SOLUTIONS and the Sustainable Urban Mobility "Do the right mix" campaign.

Along with new colleagues comes an interesting calendar of events for this first half of 2014. Among the events are a Polis Working Group meeting on Transport and Health, various European conferences as well as EU project events to exchange knowledge and extend your network. To see all events and to read the full InfoPolis articles, do not forget to log in to the members area at www.polisnetwork.eu.

Polis Environment & Health working group meeting on active travel, April 7-8 in Brussels

In the wake of the rising interest among Polis members, local decision makers, and practicioners on the health dimension in transport and city planning, Polis is organising a 2-day Environment & Health working group meeting, including a PASTA and Step-by-Step workshop on April 7-8 in Brussels. The meeting will look at new approaches to encourage physical activity (walking and cycling), replace car trips by active travel, and promote travel behaviuor change.

London Mayor leads in bid to make lorry design in EU safer for pedestrians and cyclists

When the European Commission tabled a proposal for the revision of the Weights and Dimensions (W&D) of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in April 2013, cities saw the opportunity to make lorry design safer for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users. London, Polis member, has made it a priority to improve the safety dimension in European Commission’s proposal.

Tools to support the prediction and assessment of the wider policy impacts of traffic management measures and ITS

A wide range of traffic management measures and ITS can be adopted by public authorities to address their transport problems. However, the lack of information about the impact of these measures, particularly their wider impacts, means that public authorities are not always able to make informed decisions.

PTP-Cycle website online!

PTP-Cycle "Personalised Travel Planning for Cycling" project has officially launched its website this week. The website will be the main access point to get information on the PTP approach, news and activities in the implementation cities, training material and workshops, incentives and sponsorship opportunities for companies. The project is funded by the Intelligent Energy-Europe programme.
