Polis Secretary General signs ISA manifesto

22 November 2018

During the Opening Plenary, Polis Secretary General, Karen Vancluysen, signed a manifesto in support of Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA). ISA is a vehicle safety technology helping to prevent speeding. The manifesto was then handed over to Matthew Baldwin, deputy director general in the European Commission as the EU is currently negotiating about new safety standards for vehicles in the future.

Lead by the city of Helmon, the ISA Working Group of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities launched the manifesto, which has now been signed by 16 organisations.

The signatories see the contribution ISA can make to improve road safety and limit speeding. They support the European Commission's proposal to fit future cars with ISA. This is being discussd in the revision of the EU General Safety Regulations. Meanwhile, cities, regions and other signatories act within their scope and spread knowledge about ISA, carry out trials, procure ISA equipped buses or experiment with retrofitting vehicles.
